Puja is the demonstration of indicating love to a god/goddess, a soul, or an alternate part of the heavenly through invocations, prayers, songs, and rituals. An important section of puja for the Hindu devotee is creating a deep affiliation with the divine. Regularly that contact is encouraged through an object: a factor of nature, a model, a vessel, a painting, or a print.

During puja an image or other figure of the god helps as a means of gaining access to the divine. This sign is not the deity itself; rather, it is supposed to be occupied with the deity's cosmic energy. It is a main theme for worship and connecting with the god. For the devout Hindu, the icon's creative value is significant, but is subordinate to its spiritual content. The objects are twisted as containers for spiritual energy that permit the devotee to practice straight communication with his or her gods.
